Legal Services Society

Operating out of The Salvation Army, this service began providing paralegal services focusing on First Nations families who have had children placed in care or are at risk of losing their children. LSS has now expanded its services to anyone who qualifies for legal aid with various legal issues. Our Centre is one of only two operations in all of BC, which provides a Legal Services Society worker on-site. The majority of the marginalized demographic we serve have a challenging time navigating through the highly bureaucratic governmental systems that are in place. For this reason and as a necessity, we have considered this shortcoming, bridged the gap, and made these legal services accessible to the population of the Mount Waddington Region.

The Legal Services Society provides Legal Aid in British Columbia:

Every year they help so many within our region with:

Serious Family Problems

Child Protection Matters

Immigration Issues, and

Criminal Law Issues

They do this by providing a range of services that help people resolve their legal problems.

The partnership between The Salvation Army and the Legal Services Society has positively impacted our community.

An average of 125 legal aid applications per year are successfully filed at the Centre of Hope.
